Jay was born on December 12, 1943 in Springfield, OH. Jay served his country as a United States Marine rifleman during the Vietnam era. Jay spent years as a quality manager in various manufacturing facilities in the area and was a long time member of the ASQC organization. Jay loved living in Southwest Michigan and enjoyed many activities including golf, woodworking and computer gaming.
Jay will be greatly missed by his wife, Gerry (Rand) Sturgeon, three stepchildren, Bret Zimmerman, Wade Zimmerman and Lindsay Hunsberger, one grandchild, Alex Zimmerman, and his family in Springfield, OH.

Gerry and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Jay was one of a kind: erasable, cantankerous, argumentative and blunt but most often he was right. He was a strong man in character; he did not waste words or time on fools; did not handle false hood lightly.
What a refreshing world it would be with more people like Jay. I worked with him at Great Lakes and saw his struggles. He was a good man, a good friend, and a man of the highest standards in what he believed and did.
I had hoped that when I moved to South Carolina I would get a visit from Jay for golf and relaxation, sadly that now will not happen. Attending a gun auction on the 15th I thought how much Jay would enjoy it. I had no idea he had bigger plans.
I hope St Peter has the gate in good order; it had better not squeak or Jay will write him up! At ease my friend you are greatly missed. Semper Fi.

Dear Gerry, Mike and I did not know Jay all that well, but he was so kind to help me price out some old coins last year. We will miss seeing you two walking and riding your cute little dog around the neighborhood, always waving hello. We are thinking of you.
